Hello gals (and guys)! I’m Aki from Minted Strawberry and I’m sharing a really easy project for you to whip up in no time today! I have labeling problems and I love pretty jars. Recently I went to the dollar store in search for containers for my Indian food spices. We already have a full spice jar rack, so I was planning to keep them somewhere separate. I am totally digging the modern trend these days so I decided to give the cheap containers I found some jazz by dressing them up!
- Spice jars
- Painter’s tape
- Spray paint
- Chalkboard laminate
- Chalk marker (optional)
Step 1. Start by marking where you want your spray-painted side to end. I marked 1.5″ from the bottom of my jar.
Step 2. Wrap painter’s tape around the areas you don’t want sprayed. Press and seal the edges to minimize the paint bleeding through the tape.
Step 3. Spray paint! MAKE SURE TO: shake the can before spraying and test on a piece of newspaper or other surface to ensure that the spray paint is thoroughly mixed, and spray about 8″ away to minimize the drippy look you can get if the spray paint is too thick.
Step 4. Immediately after spraying, remove the tape and set aside to dry.
Step 5. Cut some rectangle labels using your chalkboard laminate! Chalkboard laminate is easy to find – just check your local craft store or WalMart. My labels ended up measuring 0.75″ x 2.75″.
Step 6. Attach your labels as straight as you can – one way to do this would be to follow the line edge at the bottom of your jar.
And you are done! Use a chalk marker or pen to write the contents onto the chalkboard laminate.
You can totally use these for buttons, glitter, and other small bits you need storing! I absolutely love how it looks.
Thanks so much for reading! I hope you had fun with these DIY spice jars and are compelled to make them for yourself! For more projects such as this and other inspiration, don’t forget to check out my blog and social media by clicking the links below. Happy crafting, friends!
