Five Ingredient Delicious Flourless Chocolate Cake Recipe

I have this thing for chocolate cake – and by “thing” I mean I absolutely love it. But when you are on the Whole 30, which I’ve done a few times now, you have limited cake options.

But let me introduce you to one delicious option you DO have: this flourless chocolate cake.

If you are going paleo, this dessert is for you . . . trust me. It’s absolutely amazing – rich and decadent. You won’t even know you’re missing any flour or added sugar!

Note that it does have honey. The unsweetened baking chocolate is paleo-approved, but some versions of the paleo diet/Whole 30 I’ve seen don’t allow honey. I choose to eat it in moderation, and this cake is one dessert I splurge with it!

Flourless Chocolate Torte vs. Cake

Technically this dessert would be considered a flourless chocolate torte. Typically one of the key identifiers of a torte is that it calls for little or no flour, so that makes it much more dense with a richer flavor (in my opinion).

So if are invited to a paleo party and you want to bring a flourless chocolate torte, this would work.

When a dessert like this is flourless I use the words torte and cake interchangeably even if it’s not right. You just wouldn’t believe how many people don’t know what a torte is!

Freeze It

This flourless dessert actually freezes quite well. Which is nice because when you’re on the paleo diet, you spend a lot of time doing food preparation.

If it’s just one or two of you in a household, you can make this and freeze it, and enjoy it whenever you like. Just let it thaw naturally on the counter.

Substitutions

I definitely don’t recommend any substitutions to this recipe. You can’t easily substitute cocoa powder for baking chocolate or vice versa, so just avoid doing that.

If you want to try substituting the honey with agave or maple syrup, go for it. I haven’t made this recipe with either of those things, but people do it all the time, so it’s worth trying.

Directions

You’ll want an 8″ spring-form pan for this recipe.

Note: this flourless cake will have a fallen look which is typical – since there’s no flour! It doesn’t mean you got a bad result.

Once your fabulous flourless chocolate torte has cooled, it can be eaten as-is. For the non-paleo folks in your household, they can add a little powdered sugar and preserves. I won’t tell . . . shh!!
