Skills Required: None. You don’t need any prior crafting skills to make this heart art. You’ll need to use acrylic paint, but that’s easy (get tips here).
The other day I was wandering around the hardware store when I found myself staring at sheets of hexagon backsplash tiles. Like everyone else, I am obsessed with hexagon everything, and in that moment a light bulb went on in my brain.
The result was this adorable and easy DIY hexagon tile heart art! Here is what I did to make this easy home decor . . .
Gather These Supplies
- One sheet of white hexagon tiles (a sheet costs around $5)
- Canvas
- Craft paint and paintbrush
- Hot glue gun
- Clear spray enamel (optional)
Step 1: Begin by painting your tiles. This takes a little time, but I loved doing it. Totally therapeutic and fun.
Step 2: Apply multiple coats until you are satisfied with the amount of paint coverage on the tiles. Let dry.
Step 3: Arrange your tiles on the canvas. Shift things around until you are happy with how it looks. Your heart wall art is in the home stretch.
Step 4: Glue the tiles on the canvas using your hot glue gun.
Step 5 (optional): Spray your art with an enamel spray to get an even and glossy finish. Let dry.

What is the trick to painting the tiles? When I've done the second coat, parts of the tiles keep peeling off and exposing the white tile.

Hi Chelsea! Depending on the tiles you use, some of them are more "shiny" than others because they have a coating with is slick - obviously you've discovered this. I would either 1) glob on the paint or 2) use a spray primer before applying the paint (matte) to get it to stick.
I realize this is an extra step/purchase so perhaps just try globbing. :D
