This DIY gold frame is such an eye catching project! Use spray paint to make it look like 14k gold. Very easy and very budget friendly!
Skills Required: Beginner. It helps if you have experience with spray paint since that’s what this project is. Just remember several light coats as opposed to going too heavy!
Today I have a fun, simple, but eye-catching project to share with you! I was inspired by the most gorgeous frame I saw on Instagram last week.
I knew I could make this easy home decor in a few simple steps with just a few supplies. This project is the result. I hope you enjoy the tutorial for this DIY picture frame!
You might be wondering why there is an overlay as well as a wood frame in this project. Well, you can just use a simple frame alone . . . but I wanted to make this gold frame look not just metallic, but a little more ornate.
The overlay adds that special touch I was looking for. You can make it a different color if you like, but I chose to just paint the entire thing gold. Here’s how I did it.
Gather These Supplies
- Wooden frame
- Wooden laser cut frame
- Gold spray paint
- Glue gun and glue sticks (craft glue also works)
Step 1: Spray paint the wooden frame with several light coats of gold, letting dry in between coats. Let dry completely.
Step 2: Spray paint the laser cut overlay with several light coats of gold, letting dry in between coats. Let dry completely.
Step 3: Apply hot glue to the plain wooden frame in a few areas, working quickly. You can also use craft glue.
Step 4: Position the wooden laser cut frame on the plain wooden frame. Hold down until the hot glue sets which just takes a couple seconds. If you used craft glue, set aside on a flat surface to dry.
Your DIY gold frame is ready to hang. Doesn’t it look great with a black and white quote? Obviously it’s perfect for pictures as well!
I love when such a simple project makes such a huge impact, and that is definitely the case here!
I also love when it sparkles in the light. The Rustoleum Bright Gold is a really nice shade, and the paint has a nice smooth finish. I’m pleased with the final results!
