Make Thankful Wall Art in a Few Easy Steps

Use this simple tutorial to make thankful wall art that you can keep up all year! This Thanksgiving sign is easy to create and can be customized.

Skills Required: Beginner. Even if you’ve never crafted before, you can make this wood sign. You can get help with cutting the board at the home improvement store, and you can use adhesive letters if you don’t have a cutting machine.

DIY Thankful Wall Art in a Few Easy Steps

I have been wanting some new Thanksgiving decorations for my house, but my current decor doesn’t really lend itself to turkeys and pilgrim statues, so I wanted to make something not too obviously Thanksgiving-y.

Recently, on an old episode of Veggie Tales, I heard the following quote:

“A thankful heart is a happy heart. Being thankful for what I have, that’s a good place to start.”

Source

I decided not only would this quote be a great one for Thanksgiving, but it would also be one that I wouldn’t mind keeping up all year.

I had some leftover wood, which gave me the perfect opportunity to make this thankful, gratitude wall art. Here is what I did to make this wood wall art!

Thankful Wall Decor

Gather These Supplies

  • Wood board
  • Cutting machine
  • Craft paint
  • Printable vinyl/printable sticker paper
  • Painters tape/transfer tape/contact paper
  • Paintbrush
Making the design in Silhouette Design Studio

First, I made the design I wanted on my wood wall art. I found a design I liked in the Silhouette Design Studio – you can find the same saying here. Size it to fit your wood.

Printing out the design on vinyl

Then, I printed a pattern on the sticker paper and ran it through the cutting machine.

Using painter's tape to transfer the vinyl to the wood

Next, I pulled off the surrounding sticker paper and used painter’s tape to transfer the design to the wood.

Painting the wood with light red paint

Last, I added some paint detail to make it fun and give it a pop of color. Paint a few coats of craft paint and let dry thoroughly.

DIY Thanksgiving wall decor

Let your thankful wall art dry completely before hanging. To hang, use a picture hanging kit. Add a sawtooth hanger to the back and a picture hook to the wall.

You can also use D-ring picture hangers, picture hanging wire, and a hook. Either option works – just make sure you get a kit that supports the weight of your wood.

A thankful heart is a happy heart Thanksgiving wall art

This is the perfect subtle Thanksgiving wall art! And as I said – you can leave this bad boy up all year. It’s not like it has turkeys on it, right?
