Festive Fall Cake Topper You Can Make in Minutes

Happy fall friends! It’s still soooo hot here, but surprisingly the leaves are changing, and it’s really starting to feel like fall at my house! We have our fall school break coming up, and I have decided to throw a little dinner party to celebrate my favorite season.

I made this adorable fall leaf inspired cake topper, and just had to share! It looks so cozy, doesn’t it?? This fall craft is so easy to make, and only takes a few supplies.

Cardstock in yellow, orange, and green with felt balls, string, and dowels

To get started you need:

  • Skewer sticks
  • Felt balls (pom poms will also work)
  • Colored cardstock – orange, green, and yellow
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Quilting needle and twine
  • Scissors
Pair of scissors with cardstock and cut out feathers on top

First, use scissors to cut leaf shapes out of your paper. They don’t need to look perfectly dimensional, just try to keep them about 2″ tall. You can also use an electronic die-cut machine like I did, but I promise hand cut feathers are easy to make!

Next, take your twine, and thread the felt balls leaving a 3/4″ space in between each one. My banner is about ten inches in length, but you will want to adjust that according to your cake size.

After threading your felt balls, use your hot glue gun to attach the feathers to your banner, staggering the colors as you go. Feel free to mix your patterns and colors however you like!

Just attach the banner to two wooden skewers with hot glue, and insert it in your cake. That’s it, so easy! I just love how it turned out. I think I will make some matching napkin rings to go with it! I have plenty of leftover paper to make a party banner with feathers too.
