Are you interested in minimalist living? Try it for 30-days. You don’t have to get rid of all of your possessions to participate, and it helps with clutter!
Have you heard about minimalist living, otherwise known as minimalism? Essentially, it’s the practice of living with minimal things.
It’s to help combat materialism, clutter, and disorganization. Minimalism can be a great tool for helping you keep your home clean and organized, as well as helping you stay on track with your budget if you have one!
After all, when practicing minimalism during this minimalism challenge, you won’t need to buy anything (besides groceries) because that would defeat the purpose.
I’ll be moving next year which is why I’ve developed the interest in minimalist living. This will be the fourth time I’ve moved across the country, and it entails dumping a lot of stuff.
And you know what? You really don’t miss it. It feels freeing! My idea of a minimalist living challenge is to get by with the items that you need as well as some things that you enjoy.
I’m not hard core and I don’t think you need to get rid of everything! I do think it can lift a burden off of your shoulders and make your home easier to clean and manage. Stuff really DOES weigh you down – I truly believe that!
In this post, I’ll talk about how to complete a 30-day minimalism challenge and tips for doing it with success.
– You must get rid of the amount of items that correspond with the date. For example, on the 1st, you will get rid of 1 item. On the 10th, you will get rid of 10 items. On the 30th and final day, you will get rid of 30 items.
– You can do this in sections (ie. kitchen, closet, bedroom, bathroom) or you can just do a general decluttering of the house and find things from all over that you want to get rid of for each day.
– Donate anything that is still usable that you don’t want. The great thing about this challenge is that it can be a way for you to donate things to others who are less fortunate (donations also may count as tax write-offs if you keep the receipts; keep that in mind for the days towards the end where you’ll be getting rid of a lot).
Tips For Maximizing The Success Of Your Minimalism Challenge:
– Decide what you really want to keep for sentimental reasons and what you don’t. Of course, some things can be hard to get rid of for sentimental value, and that’s okay.
If it’s things that you can save in a bin or chest somewhere and keep it from getting damaged or in the way, that’s a good idea to keep with your minimalist challenge too.
-If you think it might be hard to keep up with for time reasons, do it backwards! Start at 30 items and go backwards from there, meaning you’d only have to get rid of one thing at the end.
That way, you’re getting rid of the bulk of stuff in the beginning when you still feel motivated and you’ve made time for it.
The ultimate goal of this challenge might not necessarily be to live as a minimalist forever, but maybe just to ditch things you don’t need and make room for stuff that’s more important – or even just to give your home a cleaner look. Whatever the reason may be, this 30-day minimalism challenge can definitely help.
