Use Duck Tape to create colorful flowers for this unique Dia de Los Muertos wreath! It’s so easy and fun to create. Use a black wreath for a base.
I absolutely love Dia de Los Muertos! If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a celebration held in Mexico to honor friends and family members who have died. And honestly what I really love about it is how colorful it is: the art, the altars, everything. Because “hello, my name Amy, and I love lots of color!”
This Dia de Los Muertos wreath came together in a random way, as some projects do. I already had the Treetopia black wreath, and wanted to do a Halloween project with it.
Then I went to Michaels and found some wood pieces to go along with the holiday – which coincidentally matched some Duck Tape colors I had in my stash. A little research led me to “making roses with Duck Tape” on YouTube, and it all just sort of happened!
I’m really in love with my calaveras themed wreath that I’m using for Halloween decor. The Duck Tape flowers are my favorite, and you’re going to love making them as well. They are VERY easy. Here’s how it’s done.
Dia de Los Muertos Wreath
Gather These Supplies
- Treetopia – Tuxedo Black Wreath with clear lights
- Duck Tape – Aqua, Electric Blue, Fuchsia, Neon Orange, Purple
- Dia de Los Muertos wood pieces – from Michaels
- Pipe cleaners – one per flower
- Fiskars Duck Edition Scissors
- Hot glue gun
Your first step is going to be making flowers. This is a task that you’ll want to do sitting in front of the television with a Netflix marathon. Not that it’s going to take you THAT long, but it’s fun to sit in front of the tube and just knock them out. We made three of each color for a total of 15, and we used this video:
The next step is simple. Just hot glue your wood pieces in various places on your wreath. You can adjust the flowers as needed! Your wreath is complete, and you can easily hang anywhere you like.
