Learn how to decorate a clipboard with glitter in this unique project! Maybe you need a gift or something for your desk or wall – this is easy to make.
Have you ever had a moment when you stood back to admire your work and swelled with so much pride that your head blew up like a balloon and your insides wanted to be on your outside? That’s how I feel about this glitter bombed DIY clipboard!
It was a happy accident as I was planning on doing something else, but last minute changed my mind. Sometimes changing my mind is a good thing. Sometimes.
I decided at the last minute that I would use glitter, and now I’m going to teach you how to decorate a clipboard with it. Turns out this project is pretty easy, so you should give it a go. It’s fun for both kids and adults!
How to Decorate a Clipboard
This glitter clipboard project is pretty basic, but there are a few steps. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Wooden clipboard
- White acrylic paint or white spray paint
- Mod Podge Matte
- Gold glitter
- Painter’s tape (not pictured)
- Piece of twine (not pictured)
The first step is painting that old boring clipboard a flat white. I wanted to get all of the brown which required that the clip part be secured tight while I painted.
Take the piece of twine, fold it in half and pull it through the hole in the clip. Wrap the loose ends around and bring them back through the hoop in the twine. Pull as tight as you can and double knot it.
I found that this method was the best for keeping the clip open since the spring can be dangerous if it came loose.
Next, using the acrylic paint, cover the entire surface white. Allow about an hour to fully dry, then tape off the clip.
Repeat the process for the stripes. You can either measure out where to place the tape or eyeball it like I did. Allow about two hours for the Mod Podge to dry.
Shake off any excess glitter (bottle it back up, don’t waste it!) and apply another layer of Mod Podge right over the clip and stripes. If you skip this step, the glitter won’t be as secured to the clipboard.
The Mod Podge will create a protective coating so you can actually use the clipboard. Allow another hour to fully dry before use.
How pretty is this? Now you have a glamorous clipboard for displaying artwork, notes, quotes . . . anything you want! I have to admit, I can’t stop staring at these photos and my beautiful glitter clipboard on my wall. Seriously.
What else can a girl ask for? You know what, don’t answer that, just give them a glitter clipboard and you’re good!
