To make these modern colorblocked DIY birdhouses, choose a fun color palette and grab patterned painter’s tape. These are so easy to paint, even for kids.
I decided I’d use a cool color palette inspired by this pin, and Frog Tape ShapeTape in my favorite pattern: Scallop. I’ve actually decorated corkboards before with Shape Tape, and I loved the results so much that I wanted to use it again on my DIY birdhouses. The process is pretty easy.
Gather These Supplies
- Wood birdhouses – various shapes (you can use any size)
- FrogTape Shape Tape – Scallop
- Acrylic paint – I used Martha Stewart in Cloud, Deep Sea, Gray Wolf, Mace, and Vanilla Bean and FolkArt in Midnight Garden
Before you begin, choose your pattern. The Shape Tape also comes in Chevron and Wave in addition to Scallop. I think the thing that most impressed me about the Shape Tape™ was the crisp edge that it maintained while using the paint.
This is because of patented PaintBlock Technology, a super absorbent polymer that reacts with the water in paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape, which helps prevent paint bleed.
