Make a Snowflake Cake Topper Using Hot Glue

I’ve been seeing these hot glue snowflakes floating around Pinterest and I instantly thought that they would look beautiful as a DIY cake topper. Hot glue gun crafts are fun and interesting, so why not give it a try? After some trial and error, I figured out an easy way to make these pretty snowflakes.

I think these snowflake cake toppers look just lovely for a winter birthday, new year’s celebration or Christmas cake! Stick them in a store bought cake and you can instantly impress your guests.

And since Dollar Tree sells all of the items on the supply list, that makes this a perfect dollar store craft idea.

Cooking spray, hot glue gun, and a skewer

Here’s what you will need:

  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Wooden Skewers
  • Cooking Spray
  • Clear Dish

After reading some of the other tutorials, I followed the recommendation to use a clear, smooth surface to make the snowflakes. I tried gluing straight onto a clear dish but quickly realized that the hot glue would not come up for me.

So, I sprayed it down with some good old cooking spray before putting the hot glue down and that did the trick. As soon as the glue was cool, the snowflakes came right up. I sketched out some snowflakes on a piece of paper and glued it to the underside of the dish to use as a guide.

After I glued the snowflakes, I added another bead of glue and stuck on the skewers and added some more glue on top to make sure they were really secure.

They definitely aren’t perfect, but I think they look so pretty all together on the cake.

I cut the skewers to different heights before sticking them in the cake. What a fun and festive cake topper!

Wouldn’t these also look cute on a smaller scale in cupcakes? You could use toothpicks instead of skewers. Perfect for a Frozen themed party or even a winter wedding!
