I’m a little bit embarrassed to admit that before I wrote this blog post, I didn’t know that much about St. Patrick’s Day. I mean I know the basics – it’s a celebration of the Irish culture.
And you wear green so you don’t get pinched! I don’t know how kids are now, but back in the day the kids at school pinched hard. So you had to come up with some green, no matter how small the patch.
But that’s all I knew! So, I did a little research to inform myself of the basics.
It turns out that March 17th, which is St. Patrick’s Day each year, is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.
AND the date marks the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. Who knew? I did not. I’m always interested in the origins of holidays. I like to know what I’m celebrating!
