DIY Thankful Wall Art in a Few Easy Steps

I have been wanting some new Thanksgiving decorations for my house, but my current decor doesn’t really lend itself to turkeys and pilgrim statues, so I wanted to make something not too obviously Thanksgiving-y.

Recently, on an old episode of Veggie Tales, I heard the following quote:

“A thankful heart is a happy heart. Being thankful for what I have, that’s a good place to start.”

I decided not only would this quote be a great one for Thanksgiving, but it would also be one that I wouldn’t mind keeping up all year.

I had some leftover wood, which gave me the perfect opportunity to make this thankful, gratitude wall art. Here is what I did . . .

Gather These Supplies

  • Wood board
  • Cutting machine
  • Craft paint
  • Printable vinyl/printable sticker paper
  • Painters tape/transfer tape/contact paper
  • Paintbrush

First, I made the design I wanted on my wood wall art. I found a design I liked in the Silhouette Design Studio – you can find the same saying here. Size it to fit your wood.

Then, I printed a pattern on the sticker paper and ran it through the cutting machine.

Next, I pulled off the surrounding sticker paper and used painters tape to transfer the design to the wood.

Last, I added some paint detail to make it fun and give it a pop of color. Paint a few coats of craft paint and let dry thoroughly.

Let your thankful wall art dry completely before hanging. To hang, use a picture hanging kit. Add a sawtooth hanger to the back and a picture hook to the wall.

You can also use D-ring picture hangers, picture hanging wire, and a hook. Either option works – just make sure you get a kit that supports the weight of your wood.

This is the perfect subtle Thanksgiving wall art! And as I said – you can leave this bad boy up all year. It’s not like it has turkeys on it, right?
