Don’t be afraid to buy a memory foam mattress online! Check out my review of the Marpac Yogabed, and what features I enjoy. Get my experience here!
Have you ever considered buying a mattress online? About four years ago when I first heard of this concept I thought it was nuts! Who would buy a bed online without getting to test it out??
But as more and more brave souls tried it, and left good reviews about their experiences, I decided it would be worth trying.
And when we were going to move to Vancouver, I reached out to Marpac Yogabed to see if I could get one of their memory foam mattresses to give it a try. Turns out they were willing to partner with me, and now I can share my experience with you!
I contacted Yogabed because after thorough research, I was impressed by their reviews online. My main concerns were three things: 1) I’m a side sleeper; 2) I needed something that would be easy on my back; 3) I get hot at night.
Side sleepers and people with back issues had good things to say about the mattress, and I felt like their “Comfort System” with the multi layers (and 95% better airflow) would address all my issues.
So first things first – I had to get the mattress inside my home. I was very curious at how it was going to be delivered given that it was a . . . mattress.
I mean, a king sized memory foam mattress isn’t going to be small! However, when it came it was compressed into a box – with instructions for how to remove it from the box and let it unfold.
Keep in mind that when you get your Yogabed box delivered, it’s heavy – so if you’re upstairs, you’re going to need someone to help you lift it. Another tip: do NOT cut into the box with a knife!
The mattress fits well inside the box and close to the edges and a knife could plunge right into the foam. Open the box and let the mattress unfold. It didn’t take very long until it was completely ready to sleep on.
(I’d personally love to see the machine that compresses the Yogabed into the box – wouldn’t you?)
One thing I didn’t realize (or pay attention to?) in my research was that the Yogabed had a removable cover that zips off (and on) in about 30 seconds.
I realized that it would be AWESOME because if we needed to wash it (we have dogs and you never know what will happen) that we could! Not a lot of brands offer this so it was a nice bonus.
But let me get down to brass tacks (the Yogabed review!) since that’s what it’s really about, right? Here’s what I think is important about the mattress for me, and that you should know if you are considering a Yogabed.
You Like Your Bed to be Firmer Than Average
This is not a soft mattress, and actually a previous soft mattress is what caused my back issues in the first place. The Yogabed is slightly firm, so more of a medium firmness which is what gives you the support.
I personally love mattresses with this level of firmness and I feel like it would be a great option for the majority of people.
You Enjoy the Feel of Responsive Foam
The foam on the very top of the mattress – whatever kind it is – is amazing. I like that I can move at night and Steve doesn’t get disturbed, and vice versa. This is one of my FAVORITE parts of the Yogabed!
You can press your hand down on it and the foam comes back quite quickly, which I feel is a distinction between this mattress and other memory foam mattresses. It’s really perfect.
You Want to Stay Cool at Night
The Yogabed is great at keeping my body cool at night. I’m one of those people that typically gets too warm at night on a regular basis and then I can’t sleep and am miserable. This mattress is awesome because it keeps the airflow moving through!
I will offer one caveat though – it needs to be on a frame. We had our bed on the floor for the longest time and if you put it on something where it can’t get airflow, it’s not going to work. So keep that in mind!
You Want an Inexpensive Memory Foam Mattress
Let’s face it – one of the best things about the Yogabed is that it’s such a great value. You get a great mattress for a great price (see their pricing here).
Mattresses are a fortune and I personally have an upper limit to what I’m willing to spend. The price is right with this bed!
