Pizza Sticks Recipe with Pepperoni & Parm

Now that fall is here, so is football! I’m not one to follow a specific team, but I do love watching the game.

It brings me back to those late nights as a kid, sitting around with my crazy pumped up family, eating yummy finger foods while they shouted at the television. Or one another.

Pepperoni Pizza Sticks Recipe

These parmesan pepperoni pizza sticks are delicious! So perfect for those crisp autumn evenings when you’re watching the game by yourself or with a group. Bonus: it takes only 15 minutes to make four!!

Before we dive into the recipe I want to answer a few frequently asked questions that I’ve gotten about the shticks. If you are just interested in the recipe, scroll to the bottom. Otherwise, hopefully these help you.

Can I use non-stick cooking spray for frying?

Yes, but honestly it’s not going to give you the same effect and the bread is going to toast faster. You can use butter. But also if you’re just trying to reduce the amount of oil, go ahead and give the pizza sticks a light brushing before putting them into the non-stick pan.

Can I use an air fryer?

Yes. I’d still brush them with a bit of oil or at least spray them with some olive oil cooking spray. Also you need to make sure they don’t stick to the bottom of the fryer (using aluminum foil or spray).

Can I use dough instead of bread?

Sure! Grab a tube of pizza crust from the store or make your own from scratch if you’re fancy. If you use a tube of crust, you’ll be able to get about ten rectangles out of it rather than six as I have here. You’ll want to almost double the recipe but not quite (you’ll have enough pepperoni from the one package).

What about other meat or vegetables?

Sure! Everything needs to be cooked before it goes into the pizza sticks. That means you’ll have to cook sausage, or mushrooms, etc. on the stove. Then you can wrap them in. You don’t have a ton of room for ingredients so keep that in mind.

I want to add some seasoning.

Go for it! You can add some Italian seasoning. Just don’t overdo it, and add while you’re rolling them up. I have a jar of Italian seasoning at all times and honestly I will just throw some in next time to add a little bazoom to the recipe.

Bread with the crusts removed, shredded mozzarella, and pepperoni

Ingredients

  • Bread – six slices (I used wheat, which is what I had)
  • Pepperoni – sliced, 6 oz. package
  • Mozzarella cheese, 1 cup shredded
  • Parmesan & romano cheese, 1/4 cup (you can also use just parmesan)
  • Milk, buttermilk, or cream – 1/2 cup
  • Pizza sauce – one jar for dipping

Directions

Take a slice of bread. Using a shape knife, trim off the crust from all four sides as closely to the crust as possible.

Using a rolling pin, flatten the bread until it is almost paper thin. Be gentle so the bread doesn’t crumble.

Rolling up a pizza stick with parmesan and mozzarella

Set out the rest of the ingredients in a small assembly line. Lay down a flattened bread slice. Sprinkle a generous amount of mozzarella cheese.

Place a few pieces of pepperoni on top. Try not to overfill or the contents will easily fall out during the next step.

Roll up the pizza stick tight. Dip into the milk briefly and sprinkle a heavy amount of Parmesan cheese on top.

Heat up about two tablespoons of olive oil in a pan and fry each pizza stick. Keep turning when the sides are a toasted brown.

Allow to dry on a paper towel to drain the oil. Top with another sprinkle of parmesan cheese.
