Personalized Nautical Wall Art for Beachy Decor

Create the prettiest personalized nautical wall art using faux burlap – made with a cool Duck Tape print! This project couldn’t be any easier.

Skills Required: None. Even if you’ve never crafted before, you can make this project. You’ll be taping, painting, and gluing.

I’m very excited to announce a new partnership with Duck Tape! Because here’s the thing – everyone loves Duck Tape, right? I know I do, and I know you do too from the projects that are viewed on this blog.

With my new partnership, I get to do fun and amazing Duck Tape projects each month. My first monthly project? This easy nautical wall art, made with Duck Tape in a burlap pattern!

For whatever reason when I see burlap, I think “nautical.” I might not live by the ocean, but I love the colors, patterns, and textures of sea-inspired prints.

I also have friends like Crafts by Courtney and Sand & Sisal who are constantly encouraging me to do these types of projects by sharing their beautiful work. As soon as I got my hands on a roll of burlap patterned Duck Tape, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

The good news is this nautical wall art could not be any easier. If you get itchy and scratchy working with regular burlap like me . . . you don’t have to worry about that here. I can’t wait to show you how it’s done!

DIY Nautical Art

Gather These Supplies

• Duck Tape – Burlap
• Wood shadowbox canvases
• Canvas letters
• Acrylic paint – colors of your choice; I used Light Peach, Patina, and White
• Crackle medium
• Scissors
• Paintbrushes

I purchased my canvases and canvas letters from Michaels. You can get a boatload of Duck Tape there too, including burlap! My paint colors were nautical inspired, include a blue and peach.

I started by remove the plastic from my canvases and separating the two pieces – the actual canvas and the wood frame. I painted the outside wood frame with Patina and left the canvas plain. Then I painted the letters with Light Peach and let everything dry.

While your letters are drying, Add Duck Tape to your canvas. Start in the middle – you can tear off or cut a strip (it’s easy to tear) and fold over the back as shown.

Add a strip of tape on both sides of the middle piece. You can slightly overlap if you like; the pattern won’t necessarily match but with the way the pattern is, you can’t tell if you butt the seams together.

At the edges, cut and fold as you would a package.

Keep going until both canvases are “wrapped” in Duck Tape!

You get to use crackle medium for this project – did I mention I LOVE crackle medium!? All you do is paint it on . . . and let it dry according to bottle instructions. Then paint your contrasting color (in my case, white) on top, without over brushing. You’ll see the crackle start to appear right away!

Let your letters completely dry.

While your letters are drying, insert your canvases into the frame. The Duck Tape added a little extra that made a perfectly snug fit – you could glue in if you had to.

Glue your letters onto the Duck Tape. I thought you’d be impressed with the bubble at the end of my craft glue. That’s one in a million!

Your nautical wall art is complete – and you can display it in your home – or in your beach house! I wish I had a beach house to display these in . . .
