Ingredients
- 8 ounces fresh strawberries
- 8 ounce fresh blueberries
- 1 package puff pastry (thawed)
- 8 ounces cream cheese (softened at room temperature)
- 1 T lemon juice
- ½ t lemon zest
- 2 T sugar
- ½ t vanilla
- 1 egg (room temperature)
- 1 T water
Note: you can use frozen berries, but should let them thaw to room temperature before putting on top.
Tools
- Star cookie cutter
- Rolling pin
- Paring knife
- Pastry brush
- Fork
Tips and Thoughts on This Recipe:
- Try to find an all-butter version of puff pastry (as opposed to cut with vegetable oil), because of better flakiness and flavor.
- Thaw the dough in the fridge from frozen. Don’t pull it out of the fridge until you are ready to work with it. You want it to be relatively cold when it goes into the oven (rechill before baking if necessary). Don’t unfold until fully thawed or it will crack.
- Don’t waste the scraps. Since you’re using a cookie cutter, you’re going to have some scraps. Pile the scraps onto each other and roll out again. You can use a pizza cutter to make squares. Then top with either the same ingredients as the recipe or something else like cinnamon sugar or parmesan cheese.
- Why use a paring knife on the edges and poke the center? Because it causes the edges of these tartlets to puff up while the centers will stay down.
- These are delicious served with a little powdered sugar on top and a bowl of vanilla ice cream!
- These are best eaten right away, but you can keep them in an airtight container for up to five days.

Berry Puff Pastry
Ingredients
- 8 oz fresh strawberries
- 8 oz fresh blueberries
- 1 package puff pastry thawed
- 8 oz cream cheese softened at room temperature
- 1 T lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon lemon zest
- 2 T granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 egg(s)
- 1 T water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a small bowl, mix together cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, zest, and vanilla.
- Wash the fruit you're using to top the pastry. Dice strawberries (and any other fruit you like) into small pieces and set aside.
- Roll out the puff pastry dough into a rectangle, just slightly larger than the original size, on a lightly floured surface. Don't over roll or use too much force.
- Using a 5-inch star cookie cutter, cut out stars and place them on a baking sheet.
- Use a paring knife to gently go along the edge of the stars, leaving about ¼ inch border. Poke holes in the middle of the stars with a fork.
- Gently spread the cream cheese mixture onto the middle of the stars.
- Sprinkle the puff pastry with blueberries and strawberries (or fruit of your choice).
- Make an egg wash by beating together one egg and one tablespoon of water. Gently baste the edges of the puff pastry stars.
- Bake for 10 – 12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
