This easy tater tot casserole recipe will become a favorite family dinner. It only has four ingredients – ANYONE can make it!
Okay, let’s get real for a second. Who among us hasn’t faced the eternal dinner dilemma? You know, that moment when you’re staring into the abyss of your fridge, hoping for some culinary inspiration to magically appear.
Well, get excited, because I’ve got a game-changer for you: the legendary tater tot casserole. And before you ask, yes, it’s as epic as it sounds.
Let’s rewind to a little kitchen in Kentucky, where my mom once handed me a stack of grandma’s recipes that looked like they’d survived a couple of world wars. One gem in that pile? A tater tot casserole recipe that could very well be the answer to world peace.
It’s made with four simple ingredients: ground turkey, tater tots (the under appreciated heroes of the freezer aisle), cheese, and cream of mushroom soup. It’s the Avengers of easy dinners.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: ‘A casserole, really?’ But trust me, this isn’t your average, run-of-the-mill, church potluck casserole.
This is a dish that’s so easy, you could practically make it with your eyes closed (though, for safety reasons, please don’t).
This turkey casserole and I go way back, like, 30 years back. And let me tell you, it’s like a fine wine – it only gets better with time.
There’s something about the combination of crispy tater tots and gooey cheese that’s basically a hug in a baking dish. And it’s so nice as a go-to dinner after a long day.
So, here’s the deal: if you’re looking for a quick, hearty meal that’s guaranteed to win over your family (and possibly your neighbors, if you’re feeling generous), this tater tot casserole is your ticket.
It’s a culinary reminder that sometimes, the simplest things in life are the most satisfying. Now, roll up your sleeves, fire up that oven, and let’s get cooking!
Because in less than an hour, you’ll be dishing out plates of this heavenly casserole, basking in the glory of your kitchen prowess, and wondering why it took you so long to embrace the power of the tater tot.
Bon appétit! Here’s what you’re going to need:
Ingredients
- 2 lb. ground turkey
- 1 can Campbell’s Condensed Cream of Mushroom soup
- 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 bag frozen tater tots (2 lb.)
Tools
Tip: CHECK your tater tot casserole towards the end – depending on the oven you may need an additional 10 or so minutes.
I’ve had a few people try this recipe and it’s taken between an hour and one hour 10 minutes depending on the individual oven!

Our tater tot casserole is different but easy to do also. My husband is a vegetarian so this one can be a good vegetable exchange for a meal. In a 4 qt. casserole add one can string beans, one can of corn, one cam mushroom slices (all drained) one small package of sliced almonds. Mix together one can mushroom soup and milk (pour milk into soup can to half full, using the milk to clean out can of goodness left from the soup). Pour on top of vegetables and almonds. Top with 1 pound bag of frozen tots. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for hour and a half to two hours until bubbly. I have added pre cooked chicken or pork to it to serve meat eaters. So good!
