The Coziest Ground Turkey and Biscuits Recipe Ever
Try this easy and delicious ground turkey and biscuits casserole recipe, with a buttery biscuit crust and savory BBQ flavor. The family will ask for this again and again!

If you’re a regular here at DIY Candy, you’re no stranger to my love affair with turkey casseroles. They’re like the most dependable friends in your life . . comforting, and easy.
Today we’re taking a related – but completely different – journey: ground turkey and biscuits.
I have a confession: whenever I hear the words ground turkey and biscuits recipe, my brain immediately goes to a cozy pot pie situation. You know the kind.
A creamy filling loaded with carrots, celery, peas, and chunks of leftover turkey, all tucked under golden biscuits fresh from the oven. It’s classic comfort food for a reason.
But sometimes it’s fun to shake things up.
This ground turkey and biscuits recipe takes a different path. Instead of the traditional pot pie filling thickened with broth, milk, and purpose flour, this version leans into sweet and smoky BBQ flavors.
Ground turkey gets mixed with barbecue sauce and mustard, then layered into a baking dish with crispy bacon, zucchini, cheese, and a buttery biscuit crust. It’s hearty, family-friendly, and just different enough to keep dinner interesting.

If you’ve ever made a turkey pot pie in a skillet, you already know why the combination works. Savory turkey and fluffy biscuits are basically best friends. Traditional versions often start with butter, onion, garlic, celery, and carrots cooked until tender in a pan..
Then cooks stir in flour, pour in liquid, add seasonings like salt, pepper, and thyme, and finish everything with biscuits on top. It’s delicious, but it can also take a little more effort.
That’s one reason I love this version so much. There’s no worrying about whether the filling is thick enough, no need to boil vegetables, and no standing over a skillet carefully watching a cream sauce.
Instead, you cook the turkey in one pan, mix in the sauce, and assemble everything in a few simple steps. It feels a little indulgent thanks to the bacon and cheese, but it’s still made with lean ground turkey.
The BBQ sauce gives this casserole a bold flavor that’s completely different from a traditional pot pie. The smoky-sweet combination pairs perfectly with the buttery biscuits, while the zucchini adds a few extra veggies to the mix. Even kids who normally side-eye green vegetables tend to focus on the bacon and cheese first.
Another thing I appreciate about this recipe is how flexible it is. If you have leftover turkey, you can swap it in. If you prefer chicken, that works too. You can even adjust the amount of BBQ sauce to suit your family’s taste.
The end result is still a comforting dinner with a golden biscuit crust and plenty of satisfying flavor.

Serve ground turkey and biscuits on a busy weeknight, for a casual weekend dinner, or whenever you’re craving something warm and comforting. It’s everything people love about turkey casseroles and pot pie dinners, just with a fun BBQ twist.
And trust me – once those golden biscuits come out of the oven, nobody at the table is going to complain about the difference.

I love this recipe. I swear I make it at least once a week. I do cook onions with the turkey, use sugar free bbq sauce, reduced fat cheese and crescent dough in a sheet! They make it without it cut, it makes a lot of recipes easier. This recipe is so amazing! Thank you!!!
Thank you for the great feedback Kallie! I think trying it with sugar free BBQ would be awesome . . . I didn’t even know that existed!
