Tips for Making Delicious Bread
Before you dive into this recipe, I’ve got some tips for you on making the best (and tastiest) bread. If you’re interested, check them out. Otherwise scroll to the bottom for the recipe.
Choose the Right Apples
The type of apple you use can greatly influence the flavor and texture of your bread. Tart varieties like Granny Smith offer a nice contrast to the sweetness, while sweeter apples like Fuji or Honeycrisp create a more mellow flavor.
Apple Pieces Should be Small
Peel and finely chop or grate the apples to ensure they distribute evenly throughout the bread. This also helps them cook thoroughly, blending their flavor into the bread.
Measure Precisely
Flour is the main dry ingredient in the bread. Measure using the scoop-and-level method, as adding too much flour can result in dry baked goods.
Avoid Overmixing
Mix the batter just until ingredients are combined, or the dry disappears into the wet. Overmixing can result in tough bread.
Spice It Up
Cinnamon is a classic pairing with apple, but don’t be afraid to experiment with other spices like nutmeg, allspice, or even a pinch of cloves to add depth to the flavor.
Bake it Right
Make sure your oven is properly preheated. Bake the bread until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean but be careful not to overbake as it can dry out the bread.
Cool Before Transferring
Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 20 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps the loaf set – otherwise it will be too fragile and crumble apart.

Tips and Thoughts for This Recipe
If you would like to add an icing to the top of the bread, wait until the bread is completely cool, then mix together the powdered sugar and milk to make the icing. Pour over the bread, allow to set and then slice the bread.
The milk and apple cider vinegar helps keep the bread moist without the use of oil. If you feel the need to add oil to this bread, you can replace the 1/2 cup of applesauce with 1/2 of neutral oil (such as vegetable or canola oil) with great results.
This bread can stay at room temperature in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
