Hi! I’m Angela from Handmade in the Heartland, and I’m excited to be sharing a fun project and recipe with you today. I love to entertain friends and family in my home with recipes that taste delicious and look beautiful.

I don’t know about you but I totally jumped aboard the washi tape bandwagon and started hoarding collecting rolls of it about a year ago, so I really love when I think up something cute I can do with it.

It was so easy to pop it onto these toothpicks and I love how it takes a normal snack and makes it look so cute!

Washi-Tape-Toothpicks-Supplies

Making the washi tape toothpicks for these fruit appetizers is simple. You’ll need toothpicks, scissors, and washi tape.

I bought these unique shaped bamboo toothpicks at Target, and I really liked the shape of them for wrapping the washi tape. They had a flat front instead of round.

How-To-Washi-Tape-Toothpicks

I placed a piece of washi tape on the toothpick and then trimmed it with scissors right above where the toothpick curved out to be thicker. I only wanted the tape on the strait skinny part of the toothpick.

I tried to place the center of the washi tape along the toothpick and then I wrapped the sides around to the back. Easy peasy friends! In minutes you’ve got the cutest toothpicks you have ever seen.

Washi-Tape-Toothpicks-Summer-Colors

I chose to use bright summer colors of washi tape because I knew that I wanted to make little fruit appetizers with it. I love how the washi compliments the bright colors of fruit and creates a perfect summer snack!

I created this citrus flavored fruit dip because I love a light but delicious addition to a party fruit tray. It’s simple to whip up and will please all your guests.

Fruit on a Toothpick was a great hit at the party we attended tonight. We put 4-5 pieces of fruit on each 4" regular skewer. 50 of them vanished within 1½ hours. Half of the sauce remained- but our hostess begged us to leave it. The washi tape was invisible on plain skewers but I could not find the bamboo forks. Also, they fell over on the mountainous trip over and most would not stand back up. Pineapple cube bases did the best. So they didn't look as cute- - but they did vanish! We topped each with a blueberry and alternated random strawberries, kiwis, sections of fresh mandarin oranges, canteloupe, honeydew, and pineapple. I used mandarin orange juice in the sauce. Delicious! Next time I'll pass on the washi tape, lie them down if they need to travel and make half a much sauce.
