I’m obsessed with using cement in crafts, and these DIY concrete projects are the perfect way to fulfill my need! I love how modern these ideas are.
Thereโs something weirdly satisfying about working with cement. Maybe itโs the fact that it starts as this messy mix and turns into something solid, modern, and honestly kind of impressive.
If youโve ever scrolled social media and thought, โwaitโฆ I could make that,โ youโre not wrong. These DIY concrete projects are way more approachable than they lookโand you donโt need to be pouring driveways or building sidewalks to get great results.
In fact, most concrete crafts come down to a few simple things:
- a good mold
- a basic mix
- and a place to pour
Thatโs it.
When I first started, I was convinced Iโd mess it up. I mean, this is the same material used for driveways and heavy-duty builds. But once you try a few small DIY projects, you realize how forgiving it actually is.
And the style? That modern, clean look with sharp edges and textureโit fits just about anywhere.
Whether you want something functional (like a side table or bench) or decorative (hello, planter), there are so many types of projects to try.
Tips for Working with Concrete
Before you jump in, here are a few things that make a big difference:
- Always wear gloves, a dust mask, and goggles if youโre mixing dry materials
- Use a level surface when you pourโthis keeps everything even
- Donโt rinse excess cement down drainsโuse a plastic container and let it harden
- Start with a simple mold if youโre a beginner
- Try making your own mold once youโre more comfortable
Once you get the hang of it, youโll start thinking of your own DIY ideas constantly. Are you ready to jump into the projects? Check these out!

Good day
Please advise where one can get the DIY concrete cement in South Africa or in Johannesburg?
I wish I could tell you! Do you have home improvement stores there? What is the most similar to the Home Depot?
I like these ideas, especially the painted concrete planter. It would be really easy to mold it, and after it’s set and dried there’s a lot of creativity you can use to paint or decorate it however you want. I’ve got some mix left over from a project so I’ll be trying this tonight. Thanks!
